Meeting in Salvador Advances Dialogue on Romani Rights

Martin was invited, based on his long-term research engagement and expertise, to take an active part in a meeting on August 8 in Salvador, Brazil, between the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF), leaders of Romani (Cigano) communities, and representatives of the Bahia state government. The meeting addressed demands such as training for security forces, quotas in public service, protection of traditional housing, and stronger measures against racism. State representatives responded with proposals including a technical committee for traditional peoples, a Human Rights Caravan, and initiatives in health, housing, and culture aligned with the National Plan for Romani Peoples.
